Questions to Ask Before Starting a Network Marketing BusinessOne of the advantages of starting a network marketing business is that it has the potential to be very lucrative for a minimal upfront cost.  It also provides you the opportunity to be your own boss, which can be very appealing for someone looking to gain some independence.

If you are considering starting a network marketing business, the Department of Financial Institutions recommends asking these key questions before committing to the opportunity:

  • Is the product unique?  The most success with a networking marketing business is when you have a product that can not be purchased in local stores for a lower price.  Also, you will want to make sure that the product would be attractive to friends, family, and members of your community.  Lastly, you will need to 100% believe in the product to be able to successfully sell it to others.
  • What is the company’s reputation?  It would be wise to evaluate the company’s credit history through a source such as Dun & Bradstreet.  Research the company on the Better Business Bureau and the attorney general’s office.
  • Are you cut out to be in sales?  Are you comfortable with asking people to buy your product, and can you convey they hype and excitement that you feel for the product to others?
  • If you don’t succeed, can you afford to lose the money that you initially invested?  While this is a harsh reality, it’s an important question to consider.
